Genital herpes is one of the most common sexually transmitted diseases (STDs)
in Europe and North America. It's a viral infection of the genitals that
can also affect other parts of the body. A very large representative survey of
the extent of herpes found that 45 million Americans aged 12 and older
are infected with the genital herpes virus. Genital herpes was found in 25%
of women and 20% of men. About eight
out of ten infected people aren't even aware of their condition.
